چکیده
We have investigated what the effects of adding pulse shaping and windowing to a ZipperVDSL system would be. By adding short, pulse-shaped wings to the DMT symbol and accepting the, say, 3 % efficiency loss, the spectral sidelobes of the DMT-symbol are reduced. This provides several attractive features including the following: • The pulse shaping in the transmitter reduces the out of band power of the DMT-signal. • The spectral compatibility with other systems such as ADSL and CAP-VDSL is enhanced. • It becomes feasible to use Zipper-VDSL in a time-asynchronous mode, where a VTU-R only synchronizes itself to its VTU-O, while the VTU-R / VTU-O pair may be asynchronous to all other transceiver pairs. • The pulse shaping gives some increase in the depth of spectral notches, for HAM-bands etc. The windowing is a part of a powerful RFI-ingress suppressing method as proposed by Wiese and Bingham. Spectral Compatibility of ADSL and VDSL, Part 2: The Impact of ADSL on VDSL Performance
This contribution examines the effect of ADSL on VDSL when both reside in a single binder group. The potential loss in VDSL bit rate due to the presence of ADSL is qualified using channel capacity arguments. Of particular interest is the impact of the ADSL PSD beyond 1.104 MHz on VDSL performance, as high-level ADSL energy in this region can substantially impair achievable VDSL bit rates. The c...
متن کاملZipper VDSL: A Solution for Robust Duplex Communication over Telephone Lines
We overview a digital duplex scheme called Zipper, intended for DMT-based VDSL systems. The Zipper multicarrier duplex scheme represents a breakthrough toward digital implementation of frequency-division duplexing. A duplex scheme is a method to divide the capacity of a line between the upstream and downstream directions. Zipper divides the available bandwidth by assigning different subcarriers...
متن کاملSpectral line-by-line shaping for optical and microwave arbitrary waveform generations
Spectral line-by-line shaping is a key enabler towards optical arbitrary waveform generation, which promises broad impact both in optical science and technology. In this paper, generation of optical and microwave arbitrary waveforms using the spectral line-by-line shaping technique is reviewed. Compared to conventional pulse shaping, significant new physics arises in the line-by-line regime, wh...
متن کاملSpectral Compatibility - a Prerequisite for Maximizing the Potential of Twisted-Pair Access Networks
The improvements of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology enable telephone companies to optimize the utilization of their twisted-pair access networks in a flexible way, closely relating bandwidth demand and system costs. However, for the definition of VDSL systems as the next generation of DSL spectral compatibility with other DSL systems and with amateur radio systems has to be considered....
متن کاملCoding in a Discrete Multitone Modulation System
Discrete Multitone (DMT) modulation is a multicarrier technique which makes efficient use of the channel, maximizing the throughput by sending different numbers of bits on different subchannels. The number of bits on each subchannel depends on the Signal-to-Noise Ratio of the subchannel. The performance of a DMT system can be further increased by using powerful coding techniques. This thesis in...
